Our 4th of July Trip

We're not very big on taking vacations, and honestly when the kids are this little, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to travel when they're not going to enjoy it. And if they don't enjoy it, you can guarantee that the parents aren't going to find it very fun either.

Thankfully a trip to the grandparents' house in Idaho isn't too far away and makes for a doable vacation--even if those 4 hours seem to take forever. So up we went for the long 4th of July weekend to have some fun.

No car trip is complete without someone dozing off. This of course happened 30 minutes before we got to Rexburg, so he was a great big cranky pants when we got there.

Grandma pulled out the playdough and added purple glitter to the mix. Makes for one happy girl who happens to be infatuated with pink and sparkles.

It was just a little cold the morning of the parade... but she sure looks cute. Grandma and Grandpa (or "Dama!" in The Boy's words) live really close to where the parade began, so we were able to walk down and get a choice spot to see everyone go by. We also got a boatload of candy -- probably more than Halloween totals.

We headed down to the carousel later in the afternoon when it had warmed up. Both kids absolutely loved it.

Mmmm, snowcone. She was in love with the whole idea until she took the first bite... and got a brainfreeze. She wouldn't touch it after that.

The Boy LOVES water. If given the chance, he will jump right in to whatever's available. Porter Park has an awesome splash pad, so we stopped there to let the kids cool off. Audrey flipped out if she got a drop a water on her, but the Boy on the other hand...

And then, we had an 'unbirthday' party for the Girl, since her birthday is in two weeks and Grandma and Grandpa wouldn't be able to come down for it. She got a My Little Pony (trying to even out the Princess craze, you know) and a Hello Kitty water bottle. The bigger gift is yet to come... it's in conjunction with ours, so it'll have to wait.

We were glad we went for a visit, because the kids loved spending time with Grandma and Grandpa and Uncle Zach and the puppies (ohh, the puppies... they got thoroughly teased), and Ammon and I also got some quality alone time too. Happiness all around!
